Remember the 80/20 Rule
The 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle, states that merely 20% of the contributing factors result in 80% of the outcomes. If you look at your workday, you might realize that 80% of your day is filled with fruitless tasks. Examine which tasks yield the most results and do more of those.
Give Yourself a Break
If you need to get a lot of work done, it may seem smart to power through your tasks. But the brain needs time to slow down after periods of intense focus. Take a 20 minute break when you feel your energy running low and you will be even more productive when you return to work.
Put Your Phone on Airplane Mode
Notifications can be a huge distraction during the work day. Instead of constantly checking your phone or looking at it when you hear a ding, just turn it off or put it on airplane mode.
Do the Hardest Things First
There always seems to be one unsavory task on the to-do list. Don’t procrastinate this one. Get it over with at the beginning of the day, then you won’t have to worry about it later. Plus, doing the dreaded task will give you a boost in your confidence and help your workday flow better.
Check Your Email Once a Day
Emails are one of the most time-consuming daily tasks. Checking your inbox multiple times per day produces very little result. Commit to checking your mail once a day. Respond to the urgent ones, and then log out. Doing this will give you more time because you will be less distracted during the day.
